Galvanized Sheet Metal Sheets for Custom Fabrication

Galvanized sheet metal sheets fabricated into enclosures, brackets and vented panels

Galvanized Sheet Metal Sheets for Custom Fabrication

Galvanized sheet metal sheets give buyers a practical mix of strength, rust protection and cost control. Xproto turns this material into custom brackets, panels, guards and enclosures for prototypes and production orders.

Custom fabrication from drawing to finished part

Send a 3D model and a 2D drawing. Xproto can review the design, source the stated material and quote the full process.

  • Laser cutting and CNC punching
  • Press-brake bending
  • Welding and riveting
  • Self-clinching hardware
  • Powder coating and painting
  • Dimensional inspection

Choose the Right Galvanized Sheet

A clear material callout prevents delays. List the steel grade, zinc coating and base-metal thickness on the drawing. Australian buyers often use AS 1397 terms such as Z275. North American drawings often use ASTM A653 terms such as G90.

The steel grade controls strength and bend performance. The zinc layer slows rust. A heavier zinc layer may suit outdoor use, but it can change forming and welding. Xproto can review the callout before production.

Purchasing note: do not order by “galvanized sheet” alone. Add the standard, grade, coating, thickness, finish and required certificates.

Fabrication Services for Galvanized Parts

Cutting

Laser cutting makes detailed profiles without hard tooling. CNC punching works well for repeated holes, slots and knockouts.

Forming

Press brakes form flanges and bends. The radius, grain direction and hole position must suit the sheet thickness.

Assembly

Rivets and inserted hardware can reduce heat input. Welding is also available when the drawing calls for a welded joint.

Cutting exposes a small steel edge. Welding also removes zinc near the joint. If the part will face rain or moisture, add edge sealing, zinc-rich repair paint or a full powder coat. See Xproto’s custom sheet metal fabrication service for more process details.

Common Parts and Uses

  • Electrical enclosures and control panels
  • HVAC ducts, covers and flashings
  • Solar and battery brackets
  • Machine guards and access panels
  • Trays, shelves and equipment frames
  • Outdoor cabinets and light structures

Galvanized steel suits many dry indoor and light outdoor uses. It may not suit strong chemicals, constant salt spray or regular washdown. Stainless steel may be a better choice in those settings.

Quality Checks and Order Documents

Xproto checks parts against the approved drawing. Mark all key dimensions and fit points. State any need for a material certificate, first-article report or full inspection report before the order starts.

Also mark cosmetic faces. Set clear limits for scratches, weld marks, coating colour and gloss. Good packing rules help protect zinc surfaces during shipping.

Price and Lead-Time Factors

Price depends on more than sheet cost. Part size, nesting, cut time, bend count, hardware, welding, finish and inspection all affect the quote. Larger orders can spread setup cost across more parts.

Standard grades and thicknesses often quote faster than special mill products. Simple bends also reduce tooling work. Use the sheet metal thickness chart as a guide, then place the exact value on the drawing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can galvanized sheet metal be powder coated?

Yes. The shop must clean and prepare the zinc surface first. Add the colour, gloss, texture and masking needs to the drawing.

Can Xproto weld galvanized parts?

Yes. The drawing should show weld size and location. It should also state how to protect the weld area after joining.

Does Xproto handle prototypes and production?

Yes. The team can review both small and repeat orders. Quantity helps determine the best cutting, tooling and inspection plan.

What makes a quote accurate?

Provide a complete drawing package. Include grade, coating, thickness, quantity, finish, inspection level and delivery details.
